Course Objectives:

This course is designed to give you training in statistical consulting, that is, in applying statistical methods to actual research problems in other disciplines. While specific statistical techniques will be covered in the course, the main focus will be on developing skills needed in a consulting setting including oral and written communication skills.

Class Format:

The class will meet together once per week. You will participate in mock consulting sessions based on actual consulting cases the instructor or other faculty have previously encountered. These sessions will highlight statistical techniques that are commonly encountered in a statistical consulting setting. Subsequent class time will be spent reviewing these techniques as well as other necessary skills. In addition to the mock consulting sessions, you will join the instructor or other statistics faculty in a real "live" consulting sessions at least once during the semester.

Other Details:

The class is 1 credit hour. The prerequisites are: Math 322, Math 321 and permission of the instructor.
