Frequently Asked Questions

1.      Is food provided?

Yes, breakfast will consist of muffins, bagels, pastries, and donuts. Coffee, juice, tea, and water will also be served. Lunch will be provided by JMU Dining Services.

2.    What happens if I cannot make the conference after applying?

If you find out that your daughter/student can no longer make the conference after applying, please contact eyh@math.jmu.edu and let them know that your daughter/student can no longer attend.

3.    Is there a registration fee?

No.  The EYH Conference and means are free.  We thank our sponsors for the ability to do this.  Because we want to offer this at no charge, please let us know if you are unable to attend.

  1. 4.   Where do I register?

Registration is done online by clicking the link to the right.  You can also download the brochure and send in the registration form to the address on the form.  Student participants must also either send a completed Release Form to eyh@math.jmu.edu or mail it in to the address on the form.

5.     When does my daughter/student get her T-shirt?

All student participants receive their free T-shirts at the end of the conference. Adults are welcome to purchase a T-shirt of their own.

6.     What if no one can accompany my daughter/student to the conference or when I want to attend the other workshops?

We will provide a JMU Buddy for the day. A JMU Buddy is an undergraduate JMU student who has volunteered to take the participants to their workshops. Please email eyh@math.jmu.edu if the participant will need a Buddy for the day.

7.     How are the workshops for my daughter assigned?

Efforts are made to try to accommodate your daughter's/student's workshop preferences, and most participants get their top choices. But please realize that we have to accommodate many girls, so your daughter/student may be placed in a workshop that she may not have signed up for. And, she may discover a previously unknown interest in one of these workshops!

8.     Can I request that my daughter/student be assigned to the same workshops as her friend?

No, we do not honor requests to match girls with their friends. This conference is a great opportunity for the participants to meet girls from other schools and make new friends. Your daughter/student will be able to catch up with her friends during lunch or at the keynote address.

9.    What if my daughter/student cannot attend the entire conference?

Your daughter/student may attend as much as the conference as possible. Please indicate on your application form which workshop sessions your daughter/student will be attending.

10.     When will my daughter/student know which workshops she will be attending?

She will find out on the day of the conference.

11.    Will I be able to participate in my daughter's/student's workshops?

We encourage parents/teachers to observe the workshops and participate when feasible, but students will be given the priority.

12.    What grades are invited to participate in EYH?

We invite all girls in grades 9-11.  We are not necessarily excluding girls in grades 8 or 12, but the workshops will be aimed at the 9-11 grade level.  Girls in grades 8 and 12 are still invited to come!

13.    Are there other EYH Conferences which might be closer to where I live?

EYH is a national program. Currently, there are no other such conferences in the state of Virginia.  We hope that you find the participation in such a unique event worth the drive to JMU.
