  Odds and Ends in Statistics

Abstract:   In this talk, I present some findings in statistics that are rather counterintuitive. In particular, the topics of the talk include:
                The Monty Hall Problem
                Balls in an Urn
                The Birthday Problem
                Facts About Cauchy Distribution
                Unbiased or Biased Estimators?
                Best Estimator of Variance
                Parameterization:  EXP(
λ) or EXP(β)?
                Existence of Two-Sided UMP Test

This talk is not based on research and is intended for any students who have interests in mathematics and statistics.

Biographical sketch: The presenter, Kane Nashimoto, is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at James Madison University. His interests include order-restricted models, multiple comparisons, computational statistics, and Bayesian inference.
