The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at James Madison University invites applications for one or more tenure track positions, starting August 2008. Candidates from all areas in mathematics or statistics are invited to apply. Applicants should have an appropriate doctoral degree in one of the mathematical sciences. Candidates for all positions should have demonstrated success in teaching and potential in scholarship, including the ability to work with undergraduates in research. For one position, a demonstrated interest in mathematics content courses for future elementary and middle grades teachers is desirable. Appointment at the rank of associate professor is possible for this area of interest. James Madison University is a comprehensive, coeducational state university, located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Enrollment is approximately 18000. The department includes very active groups in statistics, applied and computational mathematics, and pure mathematics, with opportunities for cross-departmental projects and cooperation.
