Announcements - updated May 11, 2005
- Your grades have been submitted.
- Here are some extra-credit problems for you.
- Here is a brief overview of some of the
topics covered in this class, updated January 13, 2005. You might
also want to look at the overview from
430 too.
- Here are a bunch of definitions I found,
most of which are relevant to this course.
Links
John Beachy at Northern Illinois University has an abstract algebra
on-line page which contains many definitions and theorems. There
is also an entire list of internet
resources for modern algebra at the math forum at Swarthmore
College.
You can also check out the group
theory page and the
ring theory
page at Wolfram's Math
World site for more definitions and theorems than you can shake a
stick at.
Advice
- Do some homework at a fixed time and in a fixed (quiet) place every
day.
- Study with other people.
- Know every definition. For every definition, know an example of something that satisfies it, as well as an example of something that doesn't.
- Read ahead.
- For every section, try to identify its main point. So, if someone
asks you, "Hey, what's the main point of Section n?" you will have an answer.
