NAGing
This activity is aimed at getting students to look at Algebra Numerically, Analytically, and Graphically. You need to NAG your students so that they can see the connections in Algebra of data, equations and graphs.
Procedure
Create the worksheet using the TI-83/84 calculator and the TI-Connect software on your computer. Screen capture the graph of the equation and a table of values from the calculator and paste them on the worksheet. Add the equation of the graph as the third item. Cut the worksheet into individual cards for the game.
Have the students match the equation with its graph and table of values. I would recommend that the students do not use the calculator to graph the function in this activity. One goal of this activity is for students to recognize the graph of an equation, ie linear, quadratic, etc. A four function calculatorcan be used if students need help in evaluating the function to find the table of values.
This activity can be modified to match other characteristics of functions such as the domain, the zeros of the function or any other aspect you want the students to connect.
